What is NIPT Test?

NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Test) is a non-invasive prenatal screening test that analyzes cell-free fetal DNA (cfDNA) circulating in the expectant mother’s blood to provide information about the baby’s chromosomal health. NIPT is especially preferred due to its high accuracy in detecting chromosomal number abnormalities such as Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards syndrome), and Trisomy 13 (Patau syndrome). This test can be performed from the 10th week of pregnancy onward and requires only a single tube of blood, posing no risk to either the mother or the baby.
